Why
the Laptop Project Might be a Flaw or may take more than Three Years
to be fully implemented. Its a very ambitious Project.
The teachers – They are
still in the stone age(I dont mean to be rude but the teachers still
use chalk and a blackboard or white paper boards to teach). How will
the teacher be able to teach students when they have no idea about
what a computer does?If you naively ask them, they will probably
tell you its a TV Set that does not have an aerial, Very funny but we
cant blame them we are in another generation.
The students - Why would
you teach a six year old how to use a laptop when they dont even know
how to phrase a sentence in English or Swahili. Second it will
probably take time before the students get used to using a
computer. The first time I used a computer was when I was 14, it took
about a year before I knew how to use one. When was your first time
to use a computer?
Tax payers Money- The
budget for the laptops is a recurrent expenditure(Its estimated to be
over 500 Billion i stand to be corrected) that means every year we
will be spending money on laptops that the teachers and students don't
even know how to use. This money can be PUT TO BETTER USE. We cannot have a revolution but an evolution, its will probably take time before the teachers and students understand how to use a laptop, with this in mind we can buy time by spending the money on the important matters.
If the government sought
my opinion this is what I would tell them.
“We do not need laptops
for every child, what we need are well equiped digital labs with well
trained instructors(Fresh graduates) To teach the Children and the
teachers. If you consider this idea you will be saving on recurent
expenditure and the learning will be smooth and efficient.”
