Ex- TV girl Esther Arunga charged over son’s death
CONTROVERSY COUPLE | They had claimed the boy fell down a staircase
Former television presenter Esther Arunga was on Thursday charged with being an accessory to her son’s killing, just a week after her husband Quincy Timberlake was charged with murder. The couple is accused of causing the death of their son, Sinclair Timberlake, 3, on June 18 at their Kallangur home in North Brisbane, Australia. The Brisbane Times reported: “Detectives from the Pine Rivers Child Protection and Investigation Unit on Thursday charged Esther Adongo Arunga, also 34, with accessory to her son’s murder.”
Yesterday, the paper reported criminal lawyer Chris Ford, who is representing the couple in their separate cases, as saying that Ms Arunga would fight for her release. “We’ll be seeking bail as soon as is practicable,” said Mr Ford. Fell down stairs Mr Timberlake was charged on Tuesday, September, 2, with the murder of their son in mid June.
The couple was taken from their home on June 25 by police for questioning, a week after their son died. They told the police that the child had been playing with his two-yearold brother when he fell down a staircase. After the “accident”, they gave him Panadol (a painkiller) and lulled him to sleep. When his condition deteriorated, the couple reportedly called paramedics who pronounced the child dead. An officer on night duty at the Child Protection and Investigation Unit at the Kallangur Police Beat confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation.
In a video posted on YouTube and belonging to Australia’s 7 News and owned by Yahoo!, police are seen cordoning off the couple’s home in Brisbane. A woman believed to be Ms Arunga is also captured weeping, moments before she is escorted to a police vehicle. A post-mortem exam was done on the boy’s body and police are expected to use the findings on the probable cause of death in the cases against the couple.
